Inlandsis (Eolith)
Centre d'exposition L'Imagier, Gatineau, QC & The Sculpted Rocks of Cantley, QC
Oct 25 - Nov 02, 2024
Located within a defunct sand quarry, the Sculpted Rocks of Cantley, Quebec offer a glimpse into the havoc wreacked at the end of the last ice age. During the Pleistocene epoch, these rocks were trapped under the Laurentide ice sheet. Oscillating temperatures grinded and churned debris trapped underneath, leaving glacial abrasions and gouges in the landscape. As the glacier retreated, the rock was carved through intense pressure and the violent swirling, erosive action of turbulent subglacial meltwater flow. Today, the Sculpted Rocks offer a thought-provoking backdrop for contemplating the catastrophic wrath of the deluge.
